Phoenix dactylifera is a flowering plant species in the palm family, Arecaceae, cultivated for its edible sweet fruit. Despite the fact that its place of origin is uncertain due to long cultivation, it probably originated in the Fertile Crescent region between Egypt and Mesopotamia. Usually, date trees reach around 21–23 meters (69–75 ft) in height, growing individually or forming a clump of multiple stems from a single root system.
